Oh Boy(s)!

This weekend we had the privilege of hosting two boys from Uganda. They were part of the Children of the world choir that visits our church each year.
I was called Friday morning and the church was in a frenzy because they didn't have enough host families. Me being me said yes without even thinking or consulting David . and of course me being me panicked as soon as I hung up at realised what I had done. Then I went into a flurry of cleaning and laundry and grocery shopping in preparation of their arrival, all the while thinking what am I going to with 2 boys for an entire weekend?

overall the weekend went well. We had Swaibu (11) and Shadrach (8). we played Lego's, massive amounts of uno(which Swaibu liked to cheat at) went to the movies and took the "train"(BART) to a near by town and wandered around the mall. there were only a couple times where Shadrach broke down and pouted because he didn't get his way but overall they were well behaved, ate all their food, including massive amounts of ketchup with almost everything i served and generally were well behaved, good natured, smiled and laughed alot and called David and I "Auntie and Uncle" it was a good experience and I'm glad I agreed even before I thought of the ramifications.

today at church all the kids performed and it was great, I cried and admired on like a proud mama. It makes me even more impatient to have my own. I wish we were in a position right now to sponsor a child of our own through World Help (http://www.worldhelp.net/) there are so many needy children out there and in the grand scheme of things $30 a month is not that much. someday we will though and I will know exactly where the money is going, to awesome and deserving children.

trying not to freak out

im freaking out about the lack of jobs, finances and general stabiliity of it all.

I got to thinking yesterday why we thought it was such a good idea to get into debt and get out degrees.

we had perfectly well paying jobs, insurance and if we played our financial cards right we probably could have been in a position to buy a house on the coast.

but nooooo, we had to get our degrees. now we're jobless, in a one bedroom apartment that we don't have rent for after next month and in major educational debt. thinking about the numbers makes me want to puke.

ok I'm having a pity party. I just need to be reminded of the great friends and church family I have gained since moving up here and how much stronger my relationship with God is. We will get through this, he's gotten others through much worse than this, I just need to keep the faith.

I can do this. really.

swirling thoughts

tragedy has struck someone fairly close to me and I'm having a hard time processing it. how to be there for someone so young? how to help someone period in a situation you have no real concept of? I have prayed for them and will continue to pray for them, somehow it doesn't feel like enough.

i kinda feel bad though because I am more upset about this than Davids grandmother passing away last week. at least I know his grandmother isn't suffering and my friend is.

my thoughts lately have been consumed with getting/being pregnant. I just found out another person I know is pregnant and I want to be too! and then my mind wanders to what if we're destined to be one of those childless couples. and every fiber of my being cant believe that would be true, it just cant be. So I continue to pray about it and each day get more and more impatient.

I thought having interviews would make it seem like a job is actually in the near future, but really it doesn't feel like it. the interview I had yesterday didn't go badly but its working with severely mentally disturbed youth and I'm not sure I'm cut out for that. plus if I do get pregnant its not someplace I would want to work where its very much a possibility. to be kicked, spit at, punched or bitten.

I have a second interview tomorrow and i have a list of stipulations that I would need if i am offered the job for it to be even remotely economically feasible for us.

meh.

I just want david to find an awesome job, for me to get pregnant and to be a stay at home mom. really I dont think thats too much to ask.
